Sci-Fi or Hi-Sci (Highly Scientific)?

Posted in New Posts, News on April 11th, 2011 by Troy Miles

As unbelievable as it seems, a new way of understanding basketball is amongst us.  It’s not of dreams, but  a new frontier replete with incredible displays of power, speed and technical application.

l

Virtual Play (click) is the name- a different basketball genre is the game.

Virtual Play is a real-life app for creating matrix-like outcomes on the court for experienced VPers and instant positive change for beginners. It’s where technical acuity, precise application and a Calm Assertive Mind (CAM) can transcend what seems possible. The truth is Virtual Play is a collection of  basketball functions and operations based on core fundamentals, including those of math and physics. To be Virtual is to be machine-like (in efficiency) across all your basketball functions – physical, technical, intellectual, and (as a human) emotional.

A Dose of My Post

Posted in New Posts, News on February 7th, 2011 by Troy Miles

Post play isn’t just for the the “Bigs”. It’s for any player who finds himself or herself at a certain location on the floor.  The ideal spot  for post position is just above the box, 45 degrees from the basket.

This area allows access to the basket on either side of the defender (potentially), without concern for a three seconds violation. Equally important, this angle also preserves access to the backboard in either direction. Backboard use in the post area creates a myriad of scoring opportunities and will increase your overall effectiveness around the basket.

Naturally, any smart defender will fight to keep you out of these prime areas. In fact, most will attempt to move you to a spot further away from the basket and work to deny you the ball. Your job is to create a safe passing route to receive the ball- at whichever post position. It helps to start your assault (to post position) lower than where you expect to receive the ball.

Once there, be adamant in your desire to receive the ball. Sometimes that’s what it takes to prompt your teammate to deliver the pass (with certainty).

Make a target (usually hand high) opposite of the defender’s pressure. If the defender stays on the top-side, “seal” him until the ball passes over his head. Once it passes his head, you’ll be able to retrieve the ball.

“Dough” To Go “Pro”

Posted in New Posts, News on January 20th, 2011 by Troy Miles

It’s a long arduous journey from little league performer to college athlete. It takes discipline, dedication, not to mention a heaping measure of talent and passion. After all, by the time an individual dons the jersey of his or her respective college institution, they have established themselves  as a top performer in their field.  Only the top 2% of  those participating at the high school level earn college scholarships.  Imagine what they would typically command (in salary) for being the top in any field– particularly when gaudy revenue numbers can be attributed to their association with the organization.  However, most college athletes are bereft of the opportunity to cash in on their chart-topping abilities– unless of course they are fortunate enough to play sports professionally.  What about the academic opportunity you might ask? Let’s talk about it.

Watch:  Pay for Play and        “Outside the Lines”

I absolutely believe a  full ride scholarship can be a powerful tool to help any individual upward mobilize. Unfortunately many student-athletes (athlete-students) are required to give an inordinate amount of energy toward their respective sport in order to maintain “scholarship” status–which goes beyond physically demanding practices.  For the vast majority, this takes away from their ability to maximize their academic and overall college experience.  Often times athlete-students are away from campus for days at a time representing and let’s face it… making money for the school.

If the scholarship is the so-called equitable compensation for their contributions to the athletic department, overall campus budgets and school brand, then there should be a system in place that allows for athlete-students to flourish in both milieus.

What if athletic scholarships were not concurrent with athletic eligibility?

Keep On Movin’

Posted in New Posts, News on January 10th, 2011 by Troy Miles

Wow…it truly has been a whirlwind of a break. I’m sure you noticed that I took some time off  from blogging. I can say with certainty it was not a matter of running out of things to say or of not being properly motivated to write. Please believe that I remain as passionate as ever to share the message on my journey to “Virtual” nirvana, and still find extreme joy in pushin’ people forward.

The down time was merely a strategic ploy to grant  my readership an opportunity to revisit each post and marinate in the message (lol).  Actually, the  shift of energies was necessary to promote  the release of “The Virtual Game of Basketball”  and establish a “Virtual” speaking tour.  Ah…. What joy in Mudville!

What Little Things Bring

Power of Confidence

Staying on top of performance is based on staying on top of the details. Don’t guess what to do, watch what to do (” A  is the Answer”).  Early vision and anticipation speed up processing (of play) and give you more time to operate (perceptively). More time to operate bolsters sound decision making (exponentially) and makes it easier to execute. Easier execution increases production and positive plays. Positive plays breed confidence and expectation (of certain things to happen-based on your actions).

In essence, expectation gives you power over your performance. Beyond confidence, it fosters self-assuredness (of actions), which allows you freedom to access your skill sets on demand and operate inside your higher self.  This not only makes you “environment proof”, but consistently more valuable to your team as well.
